If you upgrade your operating system and browser on a regular basis, what you are doing is closing any holes that may be present in the software. You will be eliminating any vulnerabilities present in the software. [br][br]If your operating system offers free patches, take advantage of the service and download them. This may just help save you from any major problems that spyware may cause. [br][br] |

Spyware has many ways of getting onto your computer, such as:
When you download programs - particularly freeware, or peer-to-peer sharing programs.
More covertly, spyware can install itself just by you visiting certain sites, by prompting you to download an application to see the site properly.
ActiveX controls. These pesky spyware makers will prompt you to install themselves while using your Internet browser
